Packing Tips for Your Campervan Trip

Are you excited about your campervan trip in New Zealand? It is considered as a haven for campervan adventurers because of its natural blessings that make for breathtaking and photogenic sceneries.

But are you confident that you know how to pack for this kind of trip? It’s not like you are simply taking your backpack and roaming around the country with all your properties in that huge, bulky bag on your back. It is especially important to pack wisely if you are bringing your family with you on the trip. You should start with determining what to bring and how to pack them in your baggage.

Even if you’re on the road, make sure to prepare healthy meals for your family. Pack some fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, and meat. Include some of the items that you usually find in your pantry at home. Don’t forget to buy cooking oil, spices, sugar, tea, hot chocolate, juice, flour, bottled water, and canned goods.

Cooking Equipment

Some campervans already come with cooking equipment, but if you happen to rent one that doesn’t have this luxury, make sure to pack them yourself. Bring everything that you need to prepare, cook, and eat your meals. These include pots and pans, cooking utensils, eating utensils, plates, glasses, mugs, wash bins, kitchen towels, cutting board, plastic containers, and can opener.

This is an important must-have that you should bring with you on your campervan trip, especially if you are planning on going to the beaten track. Bring travel sickness tablets, aspirin, scissors, mosquito repellent, antihistamine, safety pins, tweezers, eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions, vaccination certificates, and prescription medications.

Toiletries

List down all the toiletries that you need to bring, such as toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, cosmetics, and razor and shaving cream. You have to bring these items yourselves because campervan rental companies do not provide free soap and shampoo like hotels do.

Clothes and Footwear

Check the season in New Zealand during your trip and bring the right clothing. If you want to swim, dive, or enjoy any water adventure, bring the right swimwear with you. Pack comfortable walking shoes, flip flops, slippers or thongs, sunglasses, or sunhat.

It is quite easy to neglect non-food items. However, you will need them during the trip. Pack some rubbish bags, paper towels, cling wrap, tin foil, matches, washing detergent, charcoal, torch, radio and batteries, and portable BBQ. Bring sleeping bags, blankets, beach chairs, pillows, games, towels, shovel, books, and a rope where you can hang your wet clothes, swimwear, and towels.

Documents

You must secure your travel documents. If your driver’s license is in a foreign language, make sure to bring an International Driver’s License or have yours translated into English.

How to Pack

It would be easier to pack all these things on your trip if you put them in flexible baggage. It won’t occupy as much room in your rental campervan as well. Since you’ll be on a constantly moving vehicle, tie everything down. Secure all the cupboards, storage spaces, and doors in the campervan before driving away. Store all your food in Ziploc bags or containers to stop them from spilling.
