Food items

It is easy to assume that you can buy food along the road but this can get you in trouble especially if you are driving on roads you do not know. Pack some pot noodles and some packet pasta just in case. It would also not hurt to bring in some chocolate bars or protein bars which can come in handy when you decide to hike on a trail you find along your route. Instant coffee, tea bags, and other beverages can also come in handy. There are many campsites in NZ that has some grilling areas for a barbecue night so it is okay to buy some steak when you get a chance. However be mindful of the storage space you have in your refrigerator.

Gadgets and mobile telecommunication

Your laptop is a good all around tool to write down a journal of what went through your day, saving photos along the way, organizing them for easy access when you are back home, and to watch movies in when you find yourself bored while travelling. Your laptop can also help you access the Internet and research for more things to see and do on your current location. A smartphone or a tablet can be a good alternative to a bulky laptop. Smartphones can do many things – provide you with GPS service, act as a still and/or video camera, and of course keeping in touch with friends and family back home.

Health and wellness necessities

You must have a first aid kit that can take care of minor injuries and illnesses along the road. You might also want to have a travel sickness drug that can help you or your family if they are with you from feeling ill from the extended road trips. Even people who are adept with road trips can still succumb to travel sickness. Do not forget to bring with you some tissue paper and toiletries. Cleaning solutions for washing plates, cleaning surfaces, and doing laundry is also very important when you vacation in a campervan.

Recreation necessities

You can easily forget some very basic things that can maximize your vacation. First, be sure to bring lots of clothes. The last thing you want to happen is run out of clean clothes to enjoy a perfect day out in the sun. Do not forget your swimwear, flip-flops, hiking shoes, water bottle, a backpack for hiking excursions, a picnic blanket, a volleyball, deck of cards, some books, sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses, and last but not the least, some beach towels and insect repellant.

Since you are driving on foreign roads, do not forget to bring your driver’s license with you and other identification cards. Credit cards and your insurance papers including some cash should be stored together with these items.
